Three ways to calculate delivery costs - are you already using the best one?

Have you ever thought about your delivery conditions? Today we present three ways you can calculate delivery costs. Decide for yourself which method is the simplest and most effective for you.

Delivery fees by postcode

If your postcode areas are relatively clear and simply structured, you can choose the postcode variant: in this case, you simply specify the postcodes you deliver to. The customer enters their full address and is shown the delivery costs corresponding to their postcode.

Delivery fees by towns and districts

The most common method in eCaupo: you store a list of towns or districts and assign delivery fees, minimum order values and further conditions per entry. When ordering, the customer then simply selects the town or district that applies to them. If their town isn't listed, they can only submit their order with the self-pickup option.

Delivery fees based on delivery grids

It doesn't get more precise: with this option you define delivery areas on a map by drawing grids, as shown in this example of Kassel. You then define your conditions for each grid. When the customer enters their delivery address, a map service (currently Google) checks whether the customer's address lies within one of the grids. If so, the delivery conditions there apply. So you can draw delivery areas accurate down to the house number. Since an external service performs the address check here, this service can be ordered in the Marketplace for a small monthly fee.
