Three options, right at the dish
For every dish served in a reusable box, guests see the amount straight away. Anyone ordering five bowls can answer the question just once in the cart if they prefer. And “no deposit” always remains an option.
New box
The dish comes in a reusable box. The deposit appears in the cart directly below the dish.
Exchange
The guest hands back an empty box and gets a freshly filled one. The deposit stays with the guest, the box stays in circulation.
Return
The guest returns a box without taking a new one — the deposit is credited automatically.

In the driver app, reusable orders are marked — so the empty box comes back from the door.
Every box documented
Issue, exchange and return are logged in the history with order number, address and date. You can see at any time how many boxes are out there.
Regulars only — if you like
Optionally, reusable boxes are available to registered guests only. That way you always know who has a box. If you don't activate it, nothing changes in your shop.
◆ Good to know
For many businesses, reusable packaging is mandatory
In Germany, the reusable-packaging requirement (Section 33 of the Packaging Act, VerpackG) has applied since 2023. With the deposit system, you offer the reusable option where your guests order — in your shop, in your app and at the terminal.
- Anyone in Germany who packs food for takeaway or delivery in single-use plastic must also offer it in reusable packaging
- A deposit is allowed — but the reusable option must not cost more than single-use
- You must point out the offer clearly, and for deliveries also where the order is placed
- Exempt are small businesses with no more than 5 employees and no more than 80 m² of floor space — they must fill containers brought in by guests instead
- From 2028 the EU follows suit: the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requires takeaway businesses in all EU countries to offer a reusable option

Does eCaupo also supply the reusable boxes?
No. eCaupo supplies the software. You choose the boxes yourself — to suit your dishes and your dishwashing system.
Can guests return boxes without ordering anything?
Yes. On your deposit page, guests can add as many returns as they like and get the deposit credited.
Can a guest return a box to a different restaurant?
No. Each restaurant has its own deposit system — your boxes come back to you.
How much does the refill deposit system cost?
The deposit system is an extension from the eCaupo Marketplace and is charged in addition to your plan. There are no fees per box or to a deposit provider.
